​Category Management

The seeds of our expertise in CatMan and Shopper Marketing were sewn during the Grocery Retailing battle between Coles and Woolworths, which was in full swing when we arrived in Australia.  However, it has been in hardware and home improvement where we have conducted the majority of projects.  Clients have included Selleys, Stanley-Black&Decker, Porta Mouldings, ITW Retail Group, Makita, Natbuild, and others.

Harrison Consulting "6Ps" CatMan model
The Category Partners Seminar is a thought leadership forum for Category Management in the hardware industry.  Guest speakers have included PJ Davis, Neil Connon, Frank Cordi, Jeff Nicol, Warwick Rounce, Geoff Dart, Tony Jackson, Greg Beattie and others, with seminar coverage underpinned by four articles commissioned by The Australian Hardware Journal.

Retail Finance and Metrics

For the financial skills, we employ our simple proprietary model of how resellers deliver profitability and growth for their stakeholders.  We call it "The Retail Wheel".  A slideshow with audio was featured in our Showcase pages (click here). We also produce reminder cards, (see examples shown at the left).  When asked for training support, we create custom  workbooks and  exercises, starting with the basics of "mark-up and margin", and then the more challenging aspects, such as GMROI and promotional effectiveness. ​Behavioural Profiling

DiSC© is one of the most widely used instrument for behavioural profiling, readily embraced by sales people and managers who see value in deeper insight into relationships and communication. Salespeople gain new skills in tailoring their approach and presentations; managers acquire new skills in coaching their teams.  As accredited DiSC© facilitators, we provide an “end-to-end” profiling service, practical tools and engaging training.  Many Clients install the DiSC language across their organization.

Asia Pacific

Asia-Pacific is a multi-dimensional quilt of cultures, customs, market realities and management styles.  Having worked in the Region for over 30 years and lived in the Region for four of those, we are well-placed to assist MNCs, Regional/local organisations and Australian exporters.  In the map on the right, we have  the countries in which we have worked on the ground, in addition to numerous Regional Projects, APAC-wide.  Clients included Exxon/Esso, DHL, Singapore Technologies, Wiggins Teape, Pernas Sime Darby, Castrol, Roche, Bayer, CHEP and more.

Online Delivery

​As technology impacts learning preferences, we have developed our expertise in digital media and online learning.  Customised DVD-based digital training packages have been a specialism for many years, but we now conduct more than half of our work online. We have become highly competent in interactive online facilitation, adept at generating enthusiasm and engagement from remote students, including overseas.  This demanding skill has been showcased, in the form of a short video of example "Zoom-grabs" (click here).   Students and participants benefit in clarity and retention, and their feedback confirms that this is close to a face-to-face experience (as mentioned on our Solutions Page.)  And we try to employ the same learning pedagogy in both face-to-face and virtual environments.
